The usage of formatting posts on this forum is intuitive and obvious mostly, I found. I am sure you are familiar with some of these buttons, but if you are not familiar with some of the buttons on here, then you can use this to help.
The buttons on this page and in the picture below, are explained below.
1) the subject for your thread
2) inserts a poll into your post
3) allows you to upload files from your computer to the forum as attachments
5) changes the size of your text
6) gives various colours and shades for your text
7) emboldens text
8) italicises text
9) underlines text
You can combine bold, italics and underline tags. It is recommended that what tag you start with, you end with; whichever you go forwards with to start, you go backwards in the opposite direction to end, e.g.
10)gives winning lottery numbers strikes through text
11) adds superscript to text, e.g. trademarks tm or degrees, etc. You can also use the keyboard shortcut if you know them. I won't spoil it for anyone who wants to find out the keyboard shortcuts for themselves! There is also a character map available for using some characters, as well.
12) add subscript to text, e.g. H2O and CO2
13) aligns text leftwards; text is aligned leftwards automatically
14) aligns text centred
15) aligns text rightwards
16) aligns text evenly across each line
This can look like left-aligned text and you may have seen it in newspapers.
17) inserts a table
18) adds bullets and numbering

In the first list examples, I removed the line breaks. Also when entering items in lists, the forum decides to jump the blinking text cursor to the bottom of the text field, so be careful of that. The results can be different - sometimes, it doesn't do the lists properly, and it shows the code when it is not supposed to:

In here, you can talk about anything to your heart's content, which does not fall under RPC. Topics could include jokes, recipes, animal care, ideas for arts & crafts, home events, news and articles, technology interests (for technological support, visit the Computer and Technology Support area), and whatever else which is not RPC-specific. Maybe you love lolcats or have a liking for health, fitness and well-being. If the demand should arise, other topic-specific sections could be created in this area of the forum.
An ampersand is the symbol above the number 7 on my keyboard, which is used in short for the word "and" in sentences. If you quote this post of mine and see the & which I did in grey and bold just above here, you will see that it has an extra bit to it.

Posting Full Replies with Formatting Options

This can be tricky. Sometimes it adds the sub-item below the line of the item (see the first black disc and the white disc), and other times adds the sub-item on the same line as the item (see number 2 and letter a). Also it adds line breaks, i.e. when you press the return key,

between the items in the list:

As you can tell, that is not supposed to happen. It is not supposed to look like that. You might want to practice both in Preview and BBCode modes (explained below). This incorrect look to the formatting happened when I was in BBCode, and I chose to use bullets (black disc) and numbers (numbers) and Roman numerals, but it did not show them all properly; there are no Roman numerals just above but there should be; the first examples above I did in Preview mode, so again - you might want to practice in both Preview Mode and BBCode mode, going back and forth between them. You can practice, if you are determined, or just use simple bullets and numbering or don't use them at all!

It is necessary to keep the http:// at the beginning of the link; I tried the link to this forum without it, and it didn't work properly.

This will attempt to open up your email programme on your computer/phone.
22) allows you to add pictures to your post
With this button, you can add some text to the picture. The text does not go onto the picture; rather, it shows in place of the picture in case the picture cannot be shown, for whatever reason. You can also add some text to the picture which pops up as you hover your mouse over it. To do that, the following can be used:

With SRC, ALT and TITLE in the tag there, it doesn't matter which order you put them in, as long as they are in there; you do not have to have all of them in either; can omit everything except for SRC and the link to the picture if you just want the picture. Instead of using these options in the image tags here, you can also use alternative, standard image tags instead. Image tags are the three letters IMG in the usual tag format. i.e.
[img]www.website.com/picture.png[/img]They work just as well as the image tags here, and they are much easier to remember.
23) allows you to insert a video link from a selection of video websites
24) lets you insert a user link
Type in the username, and if the username exists it will show it there. Select the picture, below << Prev 1 Next >> and this will insert a link to that username's forum profile.
25) gives the ability to use code tags
As you saw, I did this above with the IMG tags for pictures. You can use the code tags to show code without that code being affected in your post. e.g. the following text
The Bold tag turns text bold.
would be shown in the code tags, like this:
The Bold tag [B]turns text bold[/B].so you can see the code without it formatting it.
26) allows you to use the quote feature of other users of the forum, or any piece of text or speech anyone may have said.

If you want to quote a forum user, you can do so like this:

As you noticed, the quoting also includes the link to the post, the date and time it was made, and the link to the user's profile who made it. The & in the quote there is, according to a StackOverflow post,

These websites are Instagram, Indiegogo, Kickstarter and Google Drive.

30) gives you the ability to preview your post before submitting it; you can still use code and formatting in Preview mode; in this mode you can see an extra button
This removes formatting. Select some text and use that button to remove the formatting.
31) the basic code mode for posts, which includes other code I have not mentioned in this post
32) does as it says on the tin - it creates the thread and allows others to see it and reply if they wish
Posting a Quick Reply
For posting a quick reply, you don't get all of this above. All you get simply is
1) the text field for your reply
2) posts the reply quickly without previewing and any additional formatting options as in the first picture above
3) goes to this full page for previewing and formatting with the options as in the first picture above
There is still a bit more to threads and posting, but this should get you very well on your way. Have fun!
